Q: Is it difficult to obtain an internship in this program?
A: A well-written, balanced resume and strong communication skills
are essential. As with any position, attention to detail,
determination, and follow-through are expected.
Q: Do many people get class credit for this internship?
A: In order to receive credit, you must have signed approval from
the internship advisor in your academic department; they will assist
you with application eligibility, number of credit hours, and
grading requirements.
Q: Does this program assist students in obtaining future internships
and/or jobs?
A: Students have obtained future internships, part-time jobs, and
full-time careers as a direct result of this internship program.
Q: How can students take a full-load of classes while
interning?
A: Time management is an important soft skill. Students interning on
Tuesday and Thursday may take classes on Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday as well as Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Students interning
on alternate dates have the flexibility to arrange the internship
around scheduled classes.
Q: When is this internship program offered?
A: The program is offered during fall, spring, and summer semesters,
but the majority of the students participate in this internship
program during the fall or spring semesters.
Q: Is transportation offered in the summer?
A: No, transportation is only offered during the fall and spring
semesters on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Q: Whom do I talk to about receiving credit for my internship?
A: In order to receive credit, you must have signed approval from
the internship advisor in your academic department; they will assist
you with application eligibility, number of credit hours, and
grading requirements. Career Services is not authorized to approve
or grant credit for any internship; however, we can assist you in
determining and contacting the appropriate faculty member from your
academic department.
Q: What majors will be accepted into this program?
A: Any and all majors are welcome to apply. Past interns have
studied: Business Administration, Communication, Economics, English,
Environmental Science, Finance, History, Human Resources, Industrial
Management, Information Technology, International Business,
Journalism, Law, Marketing, Philosophy, Political Science, Public
Administration, and Social Studies.
Q: When am I eligible to intern?
A: All CMU undergraduate and graduate students are welcomed and
encourage to apply.
